Don\u2019t miss this day long free festival\u00a0on the Strand, the Creativeworks London Festival celebrates four years of\u00a0what happens when you bring London\u2019s brilliant academics together with a brunch of creative minds. Across one packed day the Festival will feature\u00a0an eclectic mix of the weird and wonderful\u00a0from a Superpiano to a Pan African cinema archive to wearable tech hoping to transform the way we use money\u2026\u00a0Across 11 spaces within King’s College London including the Great Hall, Anatomy Museum\u00a0and\u00a0Chapel, will be a varied mix of digital installations,\u00a0music and spoken word performances,\u00a0exhibitions,\u00a0passionate\u00a0debates, expert panels, interactive workshops, networking opportunities and presentations by the Creativeworks London network of researchers, thought-leaders, artists\u00a0and creatives.<\/p>\n

Highlights below:<\/strong><\/p>\n Fighting Flatness<\/a>,\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>a curious and intriguing library of materials to be stroked, poked and fondled with Ian Hunter, Materials Council<\/p>\n June Givanni presents\u00a0her\u00a0Pan African Cinema Archive<\/a> <\/em><\/strong>displaying the extraordinary collection of materials related to African Cinema\u00a0she has collected over 30\u00a0years –<\/p>\n Women, Creative Collaborations and Digital Thinking<\/a>.\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>With\u00a063%\u00a0of Creativeworks London’s awarded collaborations\u00a0led by women,\u00a0and many\u00a0of the\u00a0projects focusing on developments in the digital sphere,\u00a0this timely discussion focuses on the rarely explored triumvirate\u00a0of gender, collaboration and digital thinking.\u00a0\u00a0Chaired by Dr Sara Jones, City\u00a0University with\u00a0guests including: Ghislaine Boddington, body>data>space<\/p>\n Superpiano<\/a> <\/em><\/strong>explores the possibilities of new technologies on this traditional instrument. Pianist Kate Ryder and Dr Tim Ewers, Kingston University are currently\u00a0developing an entirely new repertoire for their Superpiano and will premiere some of their new work<\/p>\n Poetic Places<\/a> <\/em><\/strong>is a new mobile app, produced by artist Sarah Cole in collaboration with the British Library, which allows users\u00a0to experience meaningful ‘poetic’ connections between location, history and literature<\/p>\n From Academic Collaboration to Commercialisation<\/a><\/em><\/strong>, a panel discussion exploring the possibilities for commercialisation and investment \u00a0and\u00a0how university supported collaborations\u00a0projects can move on to independent funding. Chaired by Anthony Lilley, Magic Lantern<\/p>\n Beatwoven<\/em><\/strong><\/a>,\u00a0designer Nadia-Anne Ricketts exhibits her beautiful fabrics created by software that translates music into woven patterns<\/p>\n Designersblock\u00a0founder and design innovator Piers Roberts\u00a0encourages creative, policy-makers and researchers to think differently in his workshop\u00a0<\/a>Riskkit:\u00a0new strategies for creative collaboration <\/a><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n Money No Object<\/a> <\/em><\/strong>explores the future of currency and value, using wearable technology and touch to exchange money in a more sociable way. A handshake,\u00a0high-five, hugs or a tap dance can transfer sums through gloves, rings, badges or shoes by artist\u00a0Heidi Hinder and\u00a0the V&A<\/p>\n The Black Metic Experience<\/a> <\/em><\/strong>The\u00a0term \u2018Metic\u2019 was coined by T.S Eliot to explain the phenomenon\u00a0of foreigners or resident aliens whose\u00a0allegiances are split between their homeland and their new country. Join British writers and poets<\/a> as they explore the Metic experience through\u00a0performance, talk and Q&A<\/p>\n Learning from the KE Hubs and thinking about the Future<\/a><\/em><\/strong>.\u00a0How can the Arts and Humanities contribute to the success of the creative economy? Panel\u00a0discussion involving the directors of the four Arts and Humanities Research Council Knowledge Exchange Hubs for the Creative Economy\u00a0and Professor Andrew Thompson, Interim Chief\u00a0Executive of the AHRC –<\/p>\n Lightening Talks<\/a><\/em><\/strong> awardees will reveal more about their collaborations in CWL\u2019s very own black cab\u00a0in the Quad.
