CARBON CAPTURE |\u00a0DANIEL GOSLING<\/strong><\/p>\n

Bring a strong bag, take away as much anthracite coal as you want, bury it somewhere<\/i><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

WHO |<\/b> Artist\u00a0<\/b>DANIEL GOSLING\u00a0has previously created work around a 34 day padyatra (protest\u00a0walk) from Bhopal to Delhi organised by a group of Bhopal gas disaster survivors\u00a0and activists. \u00a0He has made use of protracted journeys to produce commissioned artworks and performances, first via long distance hitchhiking and latterly via walking. Part of the\u00a02 Degrees Festival<\/b><\/span><\/a>\u00a0<\/b>celebrating art around climate change,\u00a0produced by\u00a0Artsadmin<\/b><\/span><\/a>\u00a0<\/b>who are\u00a0<\/b>dedicated to enabling artists to create\u00a0bold, interdisciplinary work without boundaries.<\/span><\/p>\n

WHAT |\u00a0CARBON CAPTURE<\/b>\u00a0In the mid 18th century, just prior to the First Industrial Revolution, the global atmospheric CO2 level was 280 parts per million by volume. On our current global emissions path, before the end of this century it\u2019s set to have doubled to 560. At that point it\u2019s anticipated that the global atmospheric temperature will have risen by a minimum of 2\u00b0C against that of the mid 18th century, though\u00a0the increase could be signally greater.<\/span><\/p>\n

Enter a space. Hear the sound of a piano playing live. You are faced with several tonnes of anthracite coal, representing all fossil fuels. As the carbon in coal only impacts the climate if burned, the audience is invited to bring a strong bag, fill it with coal (or perhaps just take a single piece) and bury it somewhere.<\/i><\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

Music composed by Paul Lewis Mumford using two sets of numbers: 280-560 & 0.0-2.0 (the former representing both pre-industrial CO2 level & end of century estimate, the latter the 2 degrees rise in global temperature from pre-industrial levels internationally recognised as the climate change ‘tipping point.\u2019)<\/span><\/p>\n
