The Dartington Hall Trust has announced\u00a0that\u00a0Sara Mohr-Pietsch\u00a0will be\u00a0the\u00a0next\u00a0Artistic Director of the\u00a0Dartington\u00a0International\u00a0Summer School and Festival<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Mohr-Pietsch will\u00a0deliver her first Summer School and Festival at Dartington\u00a0in 2020, following on from renowned\u00a0concert pianist,\u00a0Joanna MacGregor\u00a0OBE,\u00a0who will her curate her\u00a0fifth\u00a0and final festival in 2019.<\/p>\n

A music broadcaster, curator and writer, Mohr-Pietsch is best known for her work on\u00a0BBC Radio 3<\/a>, where she hosted Breakfast for many years, and is the voice of live concerts from\u00a0Wigmore\u00a0Hall. She also presents the BBC Proms, Music Matters and Choir & Organ, and\u00a0she\u00a0created Open Ear, a new music showcase which has played at Tate Modern and LSO St Luke\u2019s. Her podcast series,\u00a0Composers\u2019 Rooms,\u00a0was nominated for a Prix Europa. She has also fronted the BBC Proms on television for BBC Four and live cinema relays from the Royal Opera House.<\/p>\n

Alongside her broadcasting work, Mohr-Pietsch\u00a0hosts\u00a0events and talks for\u00a0organisations\u00a0including Southbank Centre, Barbican, Snape Maltings\u00a0and the National Theatre. She has\u00a0led education workshops for the Berlin Philharmonic and Edinburgh International Festival\u00a0and created innovative podcasts for festivals including\u00a0Spitalfields\u00a0Music. Her new book of conversations about choral music with Harry\u00a0Christophers\u00a0will be published by Faber & Faber in 2019, and she has written for The Guardian, BBC Music Magazine and Huffington Post. Mohr-Pietsch was born in London in 1980.<\/p>\n

She\u00a0studied music at\u00a0the University of\u00a0Cambridge and\u00a0the University of\u00a0Edinburgh. She attended Dartington Summer School as a student,\u00a0returning for\u00a0several years\u00a0afterwards\u00a0as a volunteer, maintaining deep connections with Dartington and the surrounding area.<\/p>\n

2018 saw\u00a0the 70th anniversary of\u00a0Dartington\u2019s\u00a0Summer School and Festival. The festival welcomes\u00a0both professionals and amateurs for a series of courses\u00a0and\u00a0workshops, and\u00a0audiences\u00a0to\u00a0an extensive programme of\u00a0concerts\u00a0featuring\u00a0a wide range of instruments and musical genres. Taking place over July and August, the\u00a0festival\u00a0is celebrated for\u00a0its inspiring\u00a0environment and for\u00a0its relaxed and fun\u00a0atmosphere that gives rise to lasting friendships and unique\u00a0musical collaborations.<\/p>\n

Mohr-Pietsch said: \u2018I am thrilled to be appointed to this role, and\u00a0honoured\u00a0to have the opportunity to build on\u00a0Dartington\u2019s\u00a0illustrious legacy, and Joanna MacGregor\u2019s inspiring work over the last\u00a0five\u00a0years. The warmth and creativity I encountered during my own time at Dartington\u00a0as a Summer School participant and volunteer\u00a0had\u00a0a powerful\u00a0effect on me, and\u00a0I am excited\u00a0about creating transformative musical experiences for everyone, as well as\u00a0deepening connections\u00a0with the local\u00a0community. Dartington is unique in the way it brings together amateur and young professional musicians with international artists in a place of outstanding beauty, rooted in the ethos of the Dartington Trust and the vision of Dorothy and Leonard\u00a0Elmhirst, who believed in the power of music\u00a0and the arts\u00a0to change lives. I am looking forward to collaborating\u00a0with the fantastic team at Dartington in building a vision for the Summer School\u00a0& Festival\u2019s future.\u2019<\/p>\n

\u2018Sara is taking on this role at a pivotal and exciting time in the Trust\u2019s history, as we begin the delivery of a programme of transformation and change. We are hugely indebted to Joanna MacGregor for her remarkable achievements during her tenure as Artistic Director. In 2019 she will be leaving an innovative and thriving creative programme in the hands of an enthusiastic successor. All of us here, particularly our Arts Team, are looking forward to supporting Sarah Mohr-Pietsch in the development of the Summer School and Festival\u00a0for\u00a02020 and beyond.\u2019<\/p>\n
